Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) is an organic compound with a broad spectrum of applications. Its chemical formula is C4H5N0S, molecular weight is 115.15, density is 1.25 g/cm3 (14% solution), and flash point is 64.3ºC. It appears as a white to yellow powder. It is a highly effective bactericide and preservative, mainly used to inhibit the growth of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and molds.
Application areas
Methylisothiazolinone is widely used in personal care products, cosmetics, coatings, pulp and other fields. In cosmetics, it is used as a preservative with a maximum concentration of 0.01%. In addition, it is also used as a preservative in bath and washing liquids.
